This report provides a snapshot of the temporal profile of hip fracture by age group, type of hip fracture and associated surgical care in Australia and New Zealand. Information on hospital separation type was not applied consistently across jurisdictions and, therefore, comparison between jurisdictions should not be conducted. This report has provided a first step towards developing a baseline for each jurisdiction regarding the treatment of hip fracture in these two countries. Within the hospital admission data collections, there is limited information available regarding various aspects of patient care and surgery that are pertinent to monitor the care provided. Administrative data reporting differences prevent jurisdictional comparisons.
